FILL MY CUP LORD!

Fill My Cup, Lord

MORNING DEVOTION

So often the enemy will give us a hit. A heavy attack on our emotions, or a cold, or even hit us with a horrendous diagnosis. A heavy trial around family or finances or just plain exhaustion trying to deal with sin and guilt ourselves. There is one heavenly key we must remember.

We NEED Holy Spirit to fill our cup!

These days, I don’t look at the evidence. The trial, the health problem… whatever it is, but instead, I see any negative hit as A PROMPT that I’m running low on the oil… and I need to fill up.

Once I spend time with my sweet Jesus, I can see clearly. Is rebuking Satan needed, a meditation of His word, repentance, or a fearless move to overcome? Full of His oil, the Holy Spirit clearly guides me down the path. Remember Prov 3:5-6 says:

1.  Trust in The LORD with ALL of your heart

2.  Lean not in your own understanding

3.  Acknowledge Him in all your ways

4.  He will direct your path

I love & live this verse. It encapsulates relationship, and the secret place, and all that flows from it.

Trust in Him speaks to me of going to Him immediately and trusting that He is the answer.

Leaning not on my own understanding says to me, don’t look at the world around you and all the goings on.

Acknowledge Him shows me how to enter in, acknowledging Him in Thanksgiving and song, for all He is and was and ever will be.

And suddenly being filled up to overflowing with Holy Spirit oil, He is directing my path.

I’m either in power rebuking the enemy.

I’ve humbled myself and repented.

I’m speaking out words of life under Holy Spirit unction.

Or I’m overcoming as I hear or see in vision, Holy Spirit showing what faith step to move into next.

And I’m no different to anyone else.

Everyone can fill up on Holy Spirit oil.

Be filled to overflowing.

And have the atmosphere in your body, mind and spirit, and indeed the world around you change to God’s glory!

So be encouraged. Run to the master to fill up first. Don’t sit in the mess wallowing. Run to your saviour and be filled up! It’s simple, if you are feeling yuck or in a yuck situation… you are just running on empty! Fill up. He can face anything for you!

So, if God filled us when we surrendered LORDship of our life to Him, and John 4:14 and John 6:35 tells us that Jesus describes Himself as living water and the bread of life that permanently satisfies spiritual thirst and hunger, why do we need continually filling?

The answer is that believers are permanently indwelt by the Holy Spirit the moment they are saved, meaning the Spirit never leaves or abandons them. However, Christians continuously need to be filled (or refilled/refreshed) with the Spirit’s power and control on an ongoing basis.

It’s all about having relationship with the Holy Spirit.

Indwelling is Permanent (One Time)

When you place your faith in Jesus Christ, the Holy Spirit takes up permanent residence in your life.

You do not lose the Holy Spirit and need Him to move back in. He is a permanent seal and gift from God.

Filling is Continual (Ongoing)

The Command: In Ephesians 5:18, the Apostle Paul commands believers to “be filled with the Spirit” using a Greek present continuous tense. This literally translates to “keep on being filled” or maintaining a lifestyle of being controlled and empowered by the Spirit.

Why “refilling” happens: It isn’t that the Spirit leaks out of you, but rather that WE are finite, leaky, and prone to walking in our own strength, getting distracted, or grieving/quenching the Spirit through sin and self-reliance.

Fresh Empowerment: Just as the early disciples in the Book of Acts were filled at Pentecost (Acts 2) and later filled again for new challenges in Acts 4:31, Christians continually need fresh surrendering and fresh empowerment to face daily temptations, weariness, and ministry.

So… just make sure that any weariness, temptations, financial difficulties etc… is a prompt to fill up on Holy Spirit oil. The fuel for life!!

EVENING SCRIPTURE STUDY

Elisha and the Widow's Jar of Oil (2 Kings 4:1-7): A poor widow whose husband has died is facing creditors who want to take her sons as slaves. The prophet Elisha asks what she has left in the house. She says only a small jar of oil. Elisha tells her to borrow empty jars from all her neighbors, go inside with her sons, and pour the oil. The oil keeps flowing until every single borrowed jar is completely filled, allowing her to sell the oil, pay her debts, and save her family

Look up this story in your Bible & read it directly from the word.
Tell the Holy Spirit what you have left, be it, a small amount of energy, or something physical like the widow. Ask Him to fill you as He filled the widows jars. That you also may be able to go out debt free & filled with all you need for today.
